The TNIPMC is a TNRD Committee that includes representation from agencies and organizations that manage invasive plants in the Region. The purpose of the Committee is to encourage collaboration on invasive plant management within the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
The service to fund the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Noxious Weed Control Program and the Invasive Plant Committee was created in 1976. The Southern Interior Weed Management Committee (SIWMC) was created as a non-profit society in 1997. In April 2017, it was agreed by the TNRD Invasive Plant Committee members and the SIWMC Board of Directors, to amalgamate the TNRD Committee and the SIWMC into one comprehensive committee.
The Thompson-Nicola Invasive Plant Management Committee (TNIPMC) has 11 members with representation from governments, organizations, and industry. The purpose of the TNIPMC is to encourage collaboration on invasive plant management within the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
The TNIPMC delivers several invasive plant managment programs for land owners as well as provides educational opportunities for the public. See the Programs page for a list of current programs being offered.
Fraser Basin Council staff in the Thompson Region are facilitating the development of the new Committee and guiding the development of the invasive plant mangement strategy for the TNRD.
