Thompson Nicola Invasive Plant Management Committee

June 3, 2019

The TNIPMC is calling all Invasive Plant Warriors to pull together an army of volunteers to wage war on invasive plants. This challenge encourages community organizations and groups to become local stewards by controlling invasive plants at a high priority invasive plant site. The group that pulls the most bags of weeds will win a $250 honorarium that will go towards that groups programs and inatiatives.

Who can be Involved?

Any interested community organization or group can become involved. Groups include sports teams, youth clubs (e.g. girl guides, boy scouts, 4H), non-profit societies, community service groups (e.g. Rotary Club), church groups, etc. It’s a wonderful way to promote stewardship, encourage a family activity, and raise money for your community group.

How Does it Work?

A group would make a 3 hour commitment for the event, at any day or time that is convenient at a location that is pre-approved by the TNIPMC. The 3 hours includes an introduction to invasive plants, pulling weeds, and a refreshment break. Just fill out the registration form below and a TNIPMC staff member will be in touch with you shortly. Ideally you will have an invasive plant site in mind that contains non-toxic invasive plants that are safe to handpull. There are numerous invasive plants that are safe to handpull, although its always recommend volunteers wear appropriate gloves:

  • Spotted knapweed
  • Diffuse knapweed
  • Common tansy
  • Common burdock
